Belfast — Police say a 1985 Fiero that was reported stolen from a Bridge Street residence sometime during the overnight hours of Wednesday, Oct. 31, and Thursday, Nov. 1, was found in Jefferson Friday, Nov. 9.

Belfast Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said the white Fiero had been sitting alongside the road across from Peaslee's Quick Stop in Jefferson for a few days. Friday, Cunningham said a man who works for a neighboring trucking company climbed into the car, located the registration and contacted the owner.

"He called the owner, and then the owner contacted us," said Cunningham.

The owner has since taken possession of the vehicle, Cunningham said. The owner reported some damage was done to the vehicle, but Cunningham said police have yet to assess the extent of that damage.

Cunningham said police have some leads in the case, which remained under investigation as of Tuesday afternoon.
