Rebekahs News

Loyal Rebekah Lodge #92 met recently for the official visitation of Sharon LaSota, district deputy president of District #14. In addition to LaSota, other guests introduced during the evening included the following present and past officers of the Rebekah Assembly of Maine: Katherine Tweedie, president; Constance Clements, past president; Maxine Clements, marshal; Sharma Wood, chaplain; and Doris Kinney, color bearer. LaSota brought the president’s greetings and explained her program for the coming year. As the snowman is the president’s emblem this year, LaSota shared some interesting facts about large snowmen built here in Maine. The members made plans to attend the president’s reception in Belfast and look forward to a fun year with her program.

Spirit of America Awards presented

On Oct. 20, Goldie Hood was presented with a Spirit of America award in Belfast. She was one of several people chosen. Mike Thibodeau was among the presenters. Goldie was chosen by the Monroe Board of Selectmen for this honor.

Election results

We now have re-elected our president for the next four years. Hopefully, the men and women of the House and Senate can come together behind our chosen leader and reach a compromise to keep our country from sinking into a depression. This was one of the dirtiest national campaigns that I have seen in my lifetime. I feel that it shows the level of fear that is ingrained in our country as of late. We also finally made the decision as a state to legalize same-sex marriage. I hope that the feeling of acceptance of freedom of choice about who we fall in love with spreads. I have no complaints on any of the results with anything that we voted on.

On a personal note

We have had our first snow fall of the year. A reminder to all that the roads will be slippery and we all need to use caution and show respect on the roadways.

Also, my household has been suffering the past three weeks with this pneumonia that has been going around. It starts with cold-like symptoms and then you develop a severe cough that holds on. The only remedy for this is antibiotics and an inhaler or steroids along with antibiotics. Don't be a martyr and think that you will get over it on your own. For the sake of the others you may come in contact with, go to the doctor and get treated. This is contagious.
