Montville Town News
My apologies for haphazardly putting the column together this week. Mom, dad, brother and sister-in-law visiting this week; school meetings to attend and beautiful weather to enjoy.
Once again, a reminder that there is a special town meeting happening on Saturday September 28th, at 10am at the Montville Town House.
Here is a summary of the topics that will be on the agenda for this special town meeting:
-To see if the Town will vote to change the sticker fees per bag.
Recommendation: $0.75 for bags that are under 20 gallons,
$1.50 for bags that are 20-35 gallons, and
$2.25 for bags that are over 35 gallons and barrels.
Note: Current sticker price is $1.50 for bags not exceeding 32 gallons.
-To see if the Town will accept the draft plan for renovations to the Montville Town House and will authorize the Board of Selectpersons to make minor changes as may be required by the State Fire Marshall’s Office and the Bureau of Corporations, Elections, and Commissions. The plan includes adding an emergency exit door, adding seating, installing a UL-approved woodstove, and painting walls to satisfy code. (Note: copies of the proposed plan are available on the town website (montvillemaine.org), by email (email@example.com), and at the office of the town clerk, and will be available at the town meeting.)
-To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Select Board to sell for $1.00 the land and the building thereon, known as the Montville Community Hall, to the Union Harvest Grange, provided that the deed shall give the Town of Montville a right of first refusal if the Grange decides to sell or conveys such real estate in the future.
-If article above fails, shall the Town authorize the Select Board to solicit bids and sell the parcel of land and the building thereon, known as the Montville Community Hall, on such terms as they deem advisable, and to execute a quit-claim deed for such property, provided that the Select Board shall advertise the sale for at least fourteen days by posting a notice in public places in Montville, on the town’s website, and in the newspaper?
-If two articles above fail, shall the Town authorize the Select Board to adopt reasonable fees and policies for the use of the Montville Community Hall?
-To see if the Town will authorize citizens’ use of the meeting room in the Town Office that is free-of-charge for the purpose of discussing issues relating to community, government, taxation, education and other matters pertaining to the public interest. To see if the Town will authorize the Select Board to set policy and fees for use of the Town Office meeting room for private events which are not open to the public.
All Montville residents are welcome to attend the meeting. The Registrar of Voters will be available at the Town House before the meeting to register new voters. For more information, contact the Montville Select Board at 342-5543 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
