More student-athletes make Mount View eager for competition
Thorndike — The following is a synopsis of the 2013-14 Mount View High School cheering squad:
Coach/years coached current team: Carol Bryant, eighth year.
Last year's record/playoff information: The Mustangs were seventh (96.1 points) at the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championships and ninth (108.4 points) at the Eastern Class B championships.
Roster: Seniors Siiri Pinkham, Mariah Ross, Amanda Schiessl and Clint Spaulding; juniors Britni Bryant and Rochelle Porter; sophomores Lili Albright, Liz Clifford, Shelbe Lane, Katrina Steiner and Katelyn Walker; and freshmen Amber Ayer, Kelly Dean, Arianna Kaczmarek, Alliy Kennedy, Aleis Ramee and Samantha Spaulding.
Known graduation losses: Katie Ross, Alyss Crooker and Lindsey Lizotte.
Significant impact athletes: Bryant, Pinkham and Ross, Mustang tri-captains.
Team strengths: Spirit and dance.
Team goals: To finish above its score from last year and qualify for the state Class B competition.
Top league/regional opponents: Medomak Valley of Waldoboro, Ellsworth, Hermon, Gardiner, Winslow and Waterville.
Outlook: The Mustangs have 17 student-athletes, a significant bump from last year's 12. Bryant said her team's expectation is to “stay in the middle of the pack,” while also trying to slide in as one of six Eastern Class B schools to move on to the state competition.
Bryant said her team has a strong core, particularly in dance. “They've really been remarkable at that and they're learning quickly," she said.
