Morrison’s Poetry Rocks at WORKS

Aug 26, 2014
Dave Morrison brings his ax back to stage in Poetry Rocks.

Searsport — Dave Morrison, who has been called a hearty weed in the garden of American poetry, will present Poetry Rocks Sunday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. at WORKS, 21 East Main St./Route 1.

Poetry Rocks is the poems of Morrison crossing a rope bridge of simple guitar grooves. Poetry Rocks is not songs, and not exactly poems, but a new delivery system for poetry. Each piece is created from scratch for the audience in real time, so that each poem has a distinct musical accompaniment. Each reading is unique.

Morrison's poems have been published in literary magazines and anthologies; and featured on Garrison Keillor’s “Writer’s Almanac” and in the Maine anthology “Take Heart.” After years of playing guitar in rock ‘n’ roll bars in Boston and New York City, Morrison lives and works on the Midcoast. He has published nine books of poetry including “Clubland” (poems about rock ‘n’ roll bars in verse and meter, Fighting Cock Press 2011) and “Stethoscope” (JukeBooks 2014), many of which are carried by WORKS.
