Mount View hosts alumni basketball games Jan. 5

FUTURE MSAD 3 sponsors games for second straight year
By Staff | Dec 26, 2012

Thorndike — Last year, FUTURE MSAD 3 (Maine School Administrative District 3) sponsored alumni basketball games for the first time in years. On Saturday, Jan. 5, the group again will sponsor a night of entertainment for alumni and friends of Mount View High School.

The women's basketball game will begin at 6 p.m., with the men's contest to follow.

Building on the success of last year’s event, this year will feature two alumnae teams for women and two alumni squads for men in alumni versus alumni court battles. The plan is to include alumni cheerleaders for both games. Entertaining the crowd throughout the night will be an alumni pep band. A contingent of Mount View alumni chamber singers also will perform at various times during the night, adding to the festivities.

Tickets are $5 per person, or $20 for a family of four or larger. FUTURE MSAD 3 board members will sell tickets in advance. If one is interested in participating in the games or any of the alumni events, email Vera McCormick at bhapee2003@gmail.com.

Both basketball games are limited to the first 24 players. Practice time in the gymnasium has been reserved for Jan. 5 at 4 p.m. The Clifford Performing Arts Center has been reserved for rehearsal for those in the chamber singers or pep band.

Coaches will be in the gym at 4 p.m. to renew friendships and to get organized.

The event also will coincide with FUTURE MSAD 3’s annual raffle. This year, FUTURE will raffle a Polaris 500 ATV, Husqvarna riding lawnmower, Husqvarna chainsaw with chaps, safety helmet and carrying case, an IPAD and several prizes with a value of $50 or more. Raffle tickets will be on sale until Jan. 5 at stores and outlets throughout MSAD 3.

The group is selling 1,500 tickets for more than $9,000 of prizes.

Proceeds from alumni night and the raffle will help to build athletic facilities, such as bleachers, fitness trails and concession buildings at the new school. "The more that we are able to raise funds through events of this nature, the less the burden will be placed upon the taxpayer," said Paula Miron of FUTURE MSAD 3. "Please help us celebrate Mount View’s alumni and support our fundraising efforts."
