Mount View mounts ‘The Spiral Staircase’
Thorndike — “The Spiral Staircase,” adapted for the stage by F. Andrew Leslie from the screenplay by Mel Dinelli, will be presented Wednesday through Saturday, Nov. 14 through 15 at 7 p.m. in the Clifford Performing Arts Center of Mount View High School, Route 220.
Set in a small town in New England in the early 1900s, the play is about the murders of several young woman, each with an "imperfection" — as Mrs. Oats tells Helen, "First the girl with the scar on her face, then that poor simple-minded creature and now a defenseless cripple." The fear within the Warren household is that Helen, who is mute, will be next … and that evening, a constable arrives to tell the family the murderer has been traced back to the area of their house.
The cast, with some doubling, is as follows. Helen is played by Erin Siladi and Ashley Bernier. Professor Warren is played by Caleb Larrabee. Dr. Parry is played by Logan Ryan and Ari Jihan. Nurse Barker is played by Donna Chason and Kasey Roberts. Mrs. Warren is played by Hailey Davis and Jacki Nadeau. Mrs. Oats by Katie Hannan and Lauren Dunbar. The constable is played by Ethan Macomber and Damion Hall. Stephen Rice is played by Andrew Cloutier.
The play is directed by Angela Nason, who warns the audience that there will be a gunshot sound effect towards the end of the play. She gives special recognition to Waldo County Tech Center for building the flats, doors and staircase used in the production.
Admission is $5 per person, $4 with a non-perishable food donation. All proceeds will go to support the Mount View drama program, which survives on donations and ticket sales alone.
