Bangor — The Mount View of Thorndike and Oceanside cheering squads hoped to perform well enough Saturday afternoon, Jan. 26 in the Eastern Class B high school competition to move onto the state meet.

However, the Mustangs and Mariners were unable to do that in a tough field of teams. Mount View was coming off a solid league meet performance and hoped to improve on that, while Oceanside had to drop out of the league event due to an injured student-athlete and simply wanted to compete in the regional meet, which the Mariners did.

The Eastern Class B championship competition team scores were: Ellsworth 142.2, Hermon 138.8, Caribou 134.3, Presque Isle 134.3, John Bapst of Bangor 127.8, Old Town 124.7, Waterville 115.5, Mount Desert Island 114.6, Mount View 108.4, Washington Academy of East Machias 100.7, Nokomis of Newport 96.6 and Oceanside 84.5.

The top six teams from each region move onto the state competition on Saturday, Feb. 9 at the Bangor Auditorium. Thus, Ellsworth, Hermon, Caribou, Presque Isle, John Bapst and Old Town move onto the state competition from Eastern Class B.

Team members for Oceanside include Elizabeth Fletcher, Kendra Finnegan, Chelsea Keyes, Caroline Luttrell, Shale Peters, Samantha Calamari, Hailey Hobbs, Hannah Loring, Emma Rose Newmeyer, Jana Talbot, Brittany Mahonen and Rachel Philbrook. The team is coached by Hope Billingsley, Irene McGonagle and Patty Fletcher.

Team members for Mount View include Shelby Lane, Alyss Crooker, Lindsey Lizotte, Katie Ross, Alexis Moulton, Siiri Pinkham, Mariah Ross, Britni Bryant, Rochelle Porter, Lili Albright, Liz Clifford and Kate Walker. The team is coached by Carol Bryant and Cindy Lufkin.
