Mount View small in numbers, but productive practices result in improvement

By Staff | Dec 27, 2012

Thorndike — The following is a synopsis of the 2012-13 Mount View High School indoor track team:

Coach/years coached current team: Gus Petrak, eighth year.

Last year's record/playoff information: The Mustang boys finished sixth (35 points) and the Mustang girls 11th (3) at the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B championship, while the Mustang boys were 11th (15) at the state Class B championships. The Mustang girls did not qualify for the state meet.

Roster: Seniors Owen Freeman, Jake Jones, Lorenzo Milani, Noah LaForge, Masha Faulkner, Kyrstyn Keating, Katlyn Porter and Mikeala Risch; juniors Logan Ryan, Ashley Bernier, Brandy Foster, Megan Muther and Alexis Strain; sophomore Bryce Hubbard; and freshmen Krysta Porter and Lily Redwine.

Outlook: With a team small in numbers this year, coach Petrak said practices have been productive, particularly with the team being able to hold practices outside with the warm weather in the early stages of the season.

The veteran coach said his veteran athletes have the best shot at nabbing league awards, while Milani, an exchange student who excelled on the soccer team in the fall, "is pretty quick and can also throw the shot put pretty far." The coach also hopes his relay teams "produce some good times" during the campaign.
