MPA’s visual short stories at Betts
Belfast — Betts Gallery at The Belfast Framer will open its latest exhibit, “Narratives,” featuring the Maine Photo Alliance, with a First Friday gallery walk reception for the artists Sept. 7 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Maine Photo Alliance is a group of six Midcoast photographers. Founded in 2009, MPA seeks to create an environment that nurtures and expands their art as well as promotes fine art photography in the community.
“Narratives” was a challenging collaborative project whereby each photographer in the group began a visual narrative and sent that image along to the next assigned photographer, who would in turn add to the visual short story. The end result was six separate narratives, each having six separate images. Also in this exhibit, each of the six artists of MPA have individual new photography work displayed in the gallery.
MPA members include Joseph Corrado, well-known on the Eastern seaboard for his exquisite food photography, seen on covers of major food magazines; Susan Davens, an expert in historic photography with an eye for landscapes and cityscapes; Susan Guthrie, whose work has been included in many juried shows in the area including the recent photography retrospective at the Center for Maine Contemporary Arts; Terry Hire, a certified interior designer and perennial gardener whose colorful photography presents surface patterns, textures and abstractions; Ann Krumrein, an artist immersed in fine art photography who has been featured in B&W and Color photography magazines; and Jim Nickelson, a professional fine art photographer and digital printer and emerging regional artist whose numerous recent credits include exhibits at Harvard and Bates.
