Mustangs grapple with solid success in recent days

Thorndike — The Mount View wrestling team hit the mats for meets on Monday, Jan 20 and Saturday, Jan. 18, events which resulted in a mixed bag of results for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs traveled to Gardiner on Monday and beat Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 43-15 and Gardiner 47-21, but lost to Mountain Valley of Rumford 39-34, to Fryeburg Academy 39-24 and Morse of Bath 36-36 (tiebreaker).

The individual Mustang results, with Mount View wrestlers listed first, were:

126 pounds — James Blanchette pinned Michael Baty, LA; lost to Jacob Thornton, MountVal, 12-8; pinned Tommy Remedis, Frye; won by forfeit over Morse; and lost to Peter Del Gallo, Gar.

132 pounds — Jarryd Fonger beat Alec Young, LA, 18-6; was pinned by Brandon Gill, MountVal, at 1:49; pinned Keegan Jones, Frye, at 0:42; won by forfeit over Morse; and beat Cameron Bell, Gar.

138 pounds — Matt Wheeler beat Jimmy Benner, LA, 10-3; was pinned by Dakota Jacques, MountVal; won by forfeit over Fryeburg Academy and Morse; and beat Andrew Gaulette, Gar.

145 pounds — Anthony Barnard won by forfeit over Lincoln Academy; pinned Michael Provencher, MountVal, at 4:57; lost to Chad Buzzell, Frye, 11-7; won by forfeit over Morse; and pinned Treavon Horton, Gar, at 3:47.

152 pounds — Scott Vaillancourt pinned Daulton Waltz, LA, at 1:13; won by forfeit over Mountain Valley; was pinned by Matt Boucher, Frye, at 1:36; was pinned by Hunter Reed, Mor, at 1:59; and won by forfeit over Gardiner.

160 pounds — Sierra Fonger won by forfeit over Lincoln Academy and Mountain Valley; was pinned by Hunter Bay, Frye, at 4:49; was pinned by Raz Balatar, Mor, at 0:30; and won by forfeit over Gardiner.

170 pounds — Ethan Sewell-Berry lost to Dakota Brown, LA, 7-3; was pinned by Mountain Valley; was pinned by Will Macfawn, Frye, at 1:56; was pinned by Corey Lent, Mor, at 0:45; and won by forfeit over Gardiner.

220 pounds — Job Mesaric pinned Raymond Call, LA, at 1:34; won by decision over Anthony Boucher, MountVal, 8-0; pinned Angel Esclante, Frye, at 3:35; pinned Austin Talgo, Mor, at 0:15; and won by forfeit over Gardiner.

285 pounds — Chris Cole won by forfeit over Lincoln Academy, Mountain Valley and Morse; was pinned by Andrew Lyman, Frye, at 3:41; and pinned Orion Seraph, Gar.

The Mustangs also competed in a five-team meet at Pittsfield on Saturday, Jan. 18 and emerged with an unblemished 4-0 record.

Mount View beat the host Huskies 33-18, Madison 52-0, Lincoln Academy 39-21 and Mount Blue of Farmington 36-36 (tiebreaker).

132 pounds — J. Fonger lost to Tanner Littlefield, MCI, 14-7; pinned Richard Moreno, Mad, at 5:42; lost to Alex Young, LA, 8-5; and won by forfeit over Mount Blue.

138 pounds — Wheeler won by forfeit over MCI and Mount Blue, pinned Emmalee Kay, Mad, at 1:05; and beat Jimmy Benner, LA, 4-2.

145 pounds — Barnard won by forfeit over MCI and Lincoln Academy; pinned Kassidee Pollis, Mad, at 2:15; and was pinned by Danny Reed, MtB, at 5:14.

152 pounds — Vaillancourt was pinned by Trevor Kitchin, MCI, at 3:57; won by forfeit over Madison and Lincoln Academy; and pinned Terry Storer, MtB, 3:03.

160 pounds — S. Fonger won by forfeit over MCI and Madison; was pinned by Dakota Brown, LA, at 0:51; and was pinned by Nick Hickey, MtB, at 0:37.

170 pounds — Sewell-Berry won by forfeit over MCI; pinned Jonah Vesery, LA, at 0:37; and was pinned by Levi Libby, MtB, at 1:59.

182 pounds — Sewell-Berry beat Ryan Cass, Mad, 3-2.

220 pounds — Mesaric pinned Michael Westgate, MCI, 0:19; pinned Mathew Brown, Mad, at 0:28; pinned Raymond Call, LA, at 0:10; and pinned J.T. Williams, MtB, at 1:07.
