Mustangs grapple with wins, losses in recent matches

Thorndike — The Mount View wrestling team has been busy through the first few weeks of the 2013-14 high school mat season and now has three meets under its collective belts following the team's tri-meet with Winslow and Camden Hills on Friday, Dec. 13.

The Mustangs came up short in its match against the defending state Class B champion Windjammers of Camden Hills, falling 54-25, and also were downed by the Black Raiders 33-18.

The individual Mount View results, with Mustang grapplers listed first, included:

132 pounds — James Blanchette beat John Underhill, CH; and won by forfeit over Winslow.

138 pounds — Matthew Wheeler beat Taylor Crosby, CH.

145 pounds — Anthony Barnard pinned Tyler Wood, CH. Matthew Wheeler lost to Luke Fredette, Win.

152 pounds — Orrin Harding was pinned by Connor Winchenbach, CH. Anthony Barnard was pinned by Winslow (wrestler's name unavailable).

160 pounds — Scott Vaillancourt was pinned by Elvis Bowen, CH; and won by forfeit over Winslow.

170 pounds — Sierra Fonger was pinned by Wyatt Parra, CH; and was pinned by Winslow (name unavailable).

220 pounds — Job Mesaric pinned Bryan Clement, CH; and pinned a Winslow grappler (name unavailable).

285 pounds — Christopher Cole pinned Logan Mullikin, CH; and was pinned by Aaron Lint, Win.

Dec. 11

At Pittsfield, the Mustangs participated in a tri-meet with Nokomis of Newport and host Maine Central Institute and went 2-0 against the squads.

Mount View beat Nokomis 36-30 and bested MCI 39-24.

The individual Mount View results, with Mustang wrestlers listed first, included:

132 pounds — James Blanchette beat Dylan Dahlberg, MCI; and won by forfeit over Nokomis.

138 pounds — Jarryd Fonger won by forfeit over Maine Central Institute and Nokomis.

145 pounds — Matthew Wheeler pinned Chandler Jenson, MCI; and won by forfeit over Nokomis.

152 pounds — Anthony Barnard was pinned by Trevor Kitchin, MCI; and won by forfeit over Nokomis.

160 pounds — Scott Vaillancourt won by forfeit over Maine Central Institute and Nokomis.

170 pounds — Ethan Sewell-Berry won by forfeit over Maine Central Institute; and was pinned by Jacob Richards, Nok.

182 pounds — Sierra Fonger pinned Henry McWilliams, MCI; and was pinned by Russell Wilson, Nok.

220 pounds — Job Mesaric pinned Seth Wilcox, MCI; and won by forfeit over Nokomis.

Dec. 7

At Skowhegan, the Mustangs opened the regular season in a quad-meet against Winslow, Oxford Hills of Oxford Hills and the host Indians.

The Mustangs went 1-2 on the day, falling to Oxford Hills 42-27 and to Skowhegan 54-24, but bested Winslow 34-15.
