Mustangs nab 12th-place finish at Skowhegan tourneyBlanchette, Fuller third, Mesaric fourth in respective weight classes
Skowhegan — For the second straight week, the Mount View wrestling team took part in a tournament, this time grappling in a Saturday, Jan. 12 event at Skowhegan High School.
The Class A Indians defended their home mats with ease and coasted to the team victory in the 28-team tournament, as they amassed seven first-place finishes and two second-place finishes.
Mount View finished 12th (58.5 points) among the 28 teams.
Mount View coach Hamilton Richards was encouraged by his squad's performance, led by third-place finishes from James Blanchette (120 pounds) and Devan Fuller (285) and a fourth by Job Mesaric (220).
Matt Wheeler and Anthony Barnard also had notable performances as both went 2-2 on the day.
Blanchette, who won the state Class C championship in his weight class last year as a freshman, looks to return to his postseason form from last season.
"His conditioning is better and he's focusing on moves that control his opponents instead of risky pinning combinations that have been the bane of his win/loss column this season," said coach Richards.
Richards said Fuller's third-place finish was "a very solid placing for him," while Mesaric's fourth-place finish was "overall a good showing.
