Mustangs place third in season's first meet

Mount View student-athletes garner bundle of first-place finishes

Bath — The high school outdoor track-and-field season kicked off on Thursday, April 17 for Mount View as the Mustangs traveled to McMann Field, along with Lincoln Academy of Newcastle, to compete with the Shipbuilders in a tri-meet.

While the girls competition was close, the outcome was ultimately the same for both Mustang squads as the Shipbuilders placed first, the Eagles second and the Mustangs third.

The Mustangs settled for third-place team finishes but secured strong individual and relay places, including eight firsts in the opening meet

Mount View does not have large numbers, but the student-athletes it has are solid and most will place high in events, as they did in the first meet.

The boys team scores were: Morse 103, Lincoln Academy of Newcastle 41 and Mount View 40.

The girls team scores were: Morse 59, Lincoln Academy 55 and Mount View 51.

The individual Mount View girls results were:

100 meters — 1, Braley Leadbetter, 14.36; 2, Kelly Dean, 14.57; and 3, Angela Strain, 14.77.

200 meters — 7, Megan Muther, 33.40; and 12, Jordan King, 34.82.

400 meters — 1, Angela Strain, 1:04.74; 2, Megan Muther, 1:12.27; 4, Morgan Clifford, 1:18.64; and 5, Meredith Picard, 1:20.05.

3,200 meters — 2, Morgan Clifford, 14:07.40.

100 meters — 4, Braley Leadbetter, 20.01; and 6, Jordan King, 25.55.

4x100-meter relay — 2, Mount View (Kelly Dean, Braley Leadbetter, Meredith Picard, Jordan King), 1:00.09.

4x400-meter relay — 1, Mount View (Megan Muther, Meredith Picard, Angela Strain, Jordan King), 4:54.15.

Long jump — 2, Meredith Picard, 13-02.00; 3, Kelly Dean, 13-1; and 7, Amanda Salisbury, 10-7.
