Camden Chef Tapped for New Food & Wine magazine award

CAMDEN, Maine— For the second consecutive year Chef Geoffroy Deconinck of Natalie’s at the Camden Harbour Inn in Camden has been selected to compete for the title of 2012 People’s Best New Chef, a national award from Food & Wine magazine. Ten chefs from each of ten regions will vie for top honors, and restaurant patrons determine the winner through online voting.

A native of Belgium, Chef Deconinck was selected to participate in this prestigious competition because of his innovative approach to traditional French cuisine, honoring the principles of local and seasonal availability. He graduated with high honors from CERIA Culinary Academy in Brussels, and has worked in highly-regarded kitchens such as Restaurant Alain Ducasse in Paris, and Café Boulud, Restaurant Daniel, and Bouley Restaurant in New York City. Chef Deconinck joined Natalie’s in the fall of 2010

Food & Wine is giving discerning diners an unprecedented voice in the search for the year’s best chefs with this new award. This award is an expansion ofF&W’s 23 years-running Best New Chef Award and commends the craft of the most talented and innovative chefs across the country who have run their own kitchens for five years or fewer. In the original Best New Chef Award, F&W editors select the winners, but in this new incarnation, diners go online to vote for their favorite chef by region. Popular vote will determine the ultimate winner, and he or she will be featured in the July 2012 issue of F&W alongside the winners of the editor-selected Best New Chef Award.

Raymond Brunyanszki, owner of the Camden Harbour Inn, said, “Food & Wine is one of the most prestigious culinary publications, recognized for its support of the nation’s best chefs. For a Chef to be nominated is a true compliment, we’re very happy for Geoffroy.” Brunyanszki added, “With Geoffroy at the helm, we will continue to demonstrate our commitment to working with great chefs and work toward our goal to become one of the best restaurants in the US.”

“I am happy to have been nominated for this new award,” said Geoffroy Deconinck, “it’s great to be included in this list of 100 chefs across the US.”

Food & Wine magazine, published by American Express Publishing, has a circulation of nearly 1 million. Food & Wine is known to a wide foodie audience these days thanks in large part to its affiliation with the extremely popular reality show “Top Chef.” More than 20 guest judges have been Food & WineBest New Chef award recipients and the winner of Top Chef is featured in Food & Wine Magazine.

Voting for The People’s Best New Chef 2012 will take place from March 5 through March 11 at http://www.foodandwine.com/peoples-best-new-chef/new-england#geoffroy-deconinck
