The corner of Church and Franklin streets in the early 1920s looked a lot different from how it looks today. The billboards disguised the empty lot created when the Peirce Block burned in 1899 and remained until 1924, when L. A. Paul built his Dodge dealership and garage. Many remember that building as the Philip B. Crosby garage. It is now owned by the city and serves as the Belfast Police Department and Coast Guard Offices.
