July 26, 1850

“A party of gentlemen of this town have returned from a tour to Moosehead Lake and the west branch of the Penobscot. They are highly pleased with this wild and interesting part of the state, which is becoming a favorite summer resort. Several moose were slain by the party, and we have delectated upon the flesh thereof, cured in the hot sun, with the aid of a little salt.”

“Spalding & Rogers North American Circus will be exhibited at Belfast on Saturday, July 27th, 1850, ‘An Epitome of Public Amusements.’ Admission 25 cents only. ”

July 25, 1895

“H. N. Woodcock, Jr., has begun the manufacture of California orange cider, the same as sold at the World’s Fair in Chicago by the western bottling house with which he was then connected. He has formed a company called the California Orange Cider Co., which will have its headquarters in Belfast. Teams will attend the fairs and other large gatherings throughout the State. The drink is claimed to be non-alcoholic.”

“Orrin J. Dickey will make a specialty of taking photographs during the week beginning July 28th. All orders will be promptly attended to and will be quickly filled. His terms will be strictly c.o.d.”

“Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lang who recently bought the Hubbard house on Northport Avenue, have erected a small building on their land and opened a snack bar there called the Penobscot Chief.”

“Mrs. Richard P. Jones of Franklin Street won the ladies title at the Maine Trapshooting Tournament Saturday at the Green Lantern Inn in Winslow, with a score of 43 out of a possible 50.”

July 21, 1983

“Mark Hatch of Castine won the Bay Festival 10K road race Saturday under a broiling sun and his mother Andrea Hatch was the first woman finisher.”

“Edith Seekins of Searsport was recently a guest of honor at a surprise birthday party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Noble. A picnic lunch was held outdoors. She was presented with a birthday cake and several gifts. Guests included Mr. Seekins, Natalie Grant and Stephen, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Leili, Wendy and Sione; Naomi Tripp, Billy Douglas, Misty, Natasha Lynn and Scott Allen Noble and the host and hostess.”
