Stockton Springs — The passenger of a vehicle involved in a collision on Route 1 was transported to a local hospital Friday afternoon, July 25.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. a Ford Ranger attempted to cross Route 1 from Harris Road Extension in Stockton Springs, according to Waldo County Sheriff's Deputy James Porter, and was struck in the side by a Ford F-150 traveling south on Route 1.

Porter said the driver of the Ranger, Kyle R. Nichols, of Stockton Springs either did not see the oncoming vehicle or did not look prior to attempting to cross. The F-150, driven by Karl A. Beiser of Northport, was unable to stop before colliding with the Ranger, Porter said. The impact of the collision rolled the Ranger one complete revolution, leaving it standing on its wheels, Porter said.

The passenger of the F-150, Martha S. Beiser, also of Northport, was taken to Waldo County General Hospital after suffering bruises and abrasions to her chest and stomach, according to Porter's accident report.

Nichols was cited by Porter for failure to yield right-of-way.

The accident scene was cleared before 4 p.m., but both lanes of traffic were closed for a short period of time backing up traffic.
