Open call for Waterfall Arts ‘Print’ show

Jan 11, 2014
Sam Davis, a city 12-year-old, created a print at Waterfall Arts in Belfast.

Belfast — In celebration of its new public printmaking studio, Waterfall Arts invites printmakers of all ages to submit their work to an open call show that will be held in arts center’s Clifford Gallery in April and May.

Any print created by hand, with or without the use of a press, will be welcome. Acceptable techniques are linocut (and related techniques), woodcut, gelatin print, collagraph, blueprint, intaglio, dry point, aquatint, silkscreen and lithography. No photography or digital media will be accepted.

Each individual is allowed one submission and all work submitted for the show must be suitably framed and ready to hang. Work should be delivered to Waterfall Arts, 256 High St., March 25 to 28 during business hours, which are Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Waterfall Arts will be offering free printmaking demonstrations during February and March to acquaint people with the studio and accessible printmaking processes. Workshops in several different printmaking techniques will also be offered. Interested parties should contact the office at 338-2222 for more information and to register.

“Print” will open Friday, April 4, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. and run until May 30. Work need not be for sale but if it is, the commission to Waterfall Arts will be 40 percent (artist receives 60 percent).

Begun in 2000, Waterfall Arts is the area's nonprofit community art center, a hub for creativity of all kinds and all ages. Its mission is to create community in harmony with nature through the transformative power of the arts through classes, free art exhibitions, life drawing sessions, art talks, music shows, film screenings and performance, youth afterschool art clubs, studio rentals and outreach to the community in a variety of ways. Thanks to a grant from the Kennedy Family Foundation, in addition to a fully-equipped clay studio, Waterfall Arts has created the print studio that will focus on environmentally-friendly processes.
