Orientation offered for literacy tutors

Belfast — Literacy Volunteers of Waldo County is offering an orientation session for anyone thinking about becoming a tutor or who has recently signed up to tutor. It is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 22, 8:30 a.m. to noon, at Belfast Adult Ed Learning Center, 6B Lion's Way.

Key components of the orientation include literacy matters, who we are (Literacy Volunters of Waldo County), best practices for tutoring adults, understanding adult learners and expectations for volunteers. Refreshments will be available.

The orientation will provide relevant key research with strategies, best practices and stories from active tutors and students.
