Orland man dies in three-vehicle crash in Stockton SpringsPolice continue to investigate crash
Stockton Springs — A 79-year-old man died after being involved in a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of Route 1 and Muskrat Farm Road early in the evening of Monday, May 19.
Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland said Philip Grindle of Orland was traveling south on Route 1 at about 3:40 p.m. when a Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by 29-year-old Jacob Smith, traveling north failed to see a Toyota Corolla, driven by Marcia Evans, 63, which was attempting to turn onto Muskrat Farm Road.
Smith struck the Corolla and then careened into the opposite lane where he struck Grindle’s Hydundai Elantra. Grindle was pronounced dead at the scene, McCausland said.
State Police reconstruction teams are continuing to investigate the crash. No other medical information on the status of Smith or Evans is available at this time.
At the time of the crash, a light to moderate rain was falling. Both ends of Muskrat Farm Road were closed to through traffic.
