Our Town Belfast welcomes new executive director
Belfast — Our Town Belfast named Breanna Bebb as its new executive director to lead the organization in its mission to promote downtown economic development.
Bebb assumed director duties Monday, July 16, after Dorothy Havey resigned the position for personal reasons. Before joining Our Town Belfast, Bebb worked in the Winter Harbor area for a nonprofit organization with a focus on growing the creative economy — an area of personal interest that drew her to Belfast.
“I moved to Belfast because of all the great events,” she said.
Bebb was introduced to Our Town Belfast about a year ago when the organization advertised for the executive director position. Even though Bebb didn’t get the spot, she said, she continued to follow the organization until the position opened again.
One of Bebb’s first goals as executive director is to increase her accessibility and become well known within the business community. To achieve that goal, she said, she is going to spend time introducing herself around the city as she settles into her new position.
In addition to helping the local business economy, Bebb said she wants to make sure people are aware of all of the events that take place over the course of the year. She acknowledged that it is a challenge to balance the many events taking place, but it’s the type of challenge she enjoys.
“I want to make sure we get the word out about these events. I just love all of the energy and activity,” she said.
Having an engaged and active community is a boon to Bebb, who said she was especially drawn to Belfast because of what the area offered. Even though Belfast is a city, she said the area still has a small-town feel. She also noted that she can walk anywhere from her downtown residence and find exactly what she needs without having to leave the city.
“Everything I need is right here,” Bebb said.
As Bebb settles in and acquaints herself with the area, she said she really wants people to know that Our Town Belfast’s efforts throughout the city are “definitely a group effort.”
Looking ahead, Bebb said she hopes every business in the city can be involved with and served by Our Town Belfast. She hopes also to see more new businesses come to the area and experience the same atmosphere and energy that enticed her here.
