Page to Screen plays ‘The Field’
Belfast — On Tuesday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m., the Irish Page to Screen discussion series at Belfast Free Library will meet to view and discuss John B. Keane’s play and film “The Field.” Directed by Jim Sheridan and released in 1990, the film captures the powerful attachment to land and sensitivity to relationship found in a small village in the Southwest of Ireland.
The series continues Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 6:30 p.m. with a discussion of Christy Brown’s autobiography “My Left Foot,” followed by a screening and discussion of the film version on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 6:30 p.m. The film, also directed by Sheridan, includes an Oscar-winning performance by Daniel Day-Lewis.
The series will be facilitated by Del Hickey and David Andrews, retired doctorate-holding academics who embraced the Irish culture while living and working in Ireland for six years. They fell in love with the “craic,” the music, the literature and the films.
Books for each of the programs are available to borrow at the main circulation of the Belfast Free Library, 106 High St. For more information, call 338-3884, ext. 10.
