Palermo man pleads not guilty to sexually abusing teen girl
Belfast — A Palermo man accused of sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl pleaded not guilty to the offense Thursday, Jan. 30.
Jason Baldwin, 38, of Palermo, pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexually abusing a minor and not guilty to a charge of refusing to submit to arrest or detention.
Balwin was charged after the Waldo County Sheriff's Office received a complaint that he was harassing the victim. According to previously published reports, Baldwin was allegedly knocking on the window of the victim's bedroom at night.
During the investigation, police determined Baldwin had a sexual relationship with the victim when she was 15 years old. After the relationship ended, the victim's mother told police she believed Baldwin was obsessed with her daughter.
When police attempted to speak to Baldwin, he refused to cooperate and kept saying he wanted to speak to his parents before he pulled away from the officers. Baldwin eventually locked himself inside his home and refused to leave.
Additional officers responded to the scene in case a stand-off situation developed.
Baldwin was eventually taken into custody after being convinced to leave his residence. At the time of his arrest, police said Baldwin did not have a criminal record in the state.
He is scheduled to appear in Waldo County Superior Court April 7.
