Belfast — A Palermo woman suffered serious injuries after her vehicle went off the road and struck a tree on the morning of Aug. 2.

Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said 67-year-old Joyce Mosher was traveling west on Route 3 in Belfast shortly after 10 a.m. when she fell asleep and her 2000 Subaru went off the road before striking a tree. Emergency personnel had to use the Jaws of Life to free Mosher from the vehicle before she could be taken to Waldo County General Hospital, Cunningham said.

Mosher suffered a possible broken leg or knee, Cunningham said, and also complained of pain in her left hand and chest.

The Subaru was destroyed in the crash.
