Panthers blank Lions, remain entrenched in playoff picture

Genthner, Obuchon, Wallace lead hosts' offense

Waldoboro — At the midway point of the regular season, the Medomak Valley girls soccer team again has found itself in the midst of the Eastern Class B playoff picture.

On the heels of a 2-0 win over Belfast Thursday afternoon, Sept. 20, the Panthers are 4-2-1 and seventh in the regional standings. The Panthers' only losses are to local rivals Oceanside and Camden Hills, a pair of squads they are looking up at in the standings.

On Thursday against the visiting Lions, Lexi Genthner had a goal and an assist for the winners, while Heidi Obuchon also creased the net and Elise Wallace added an assist for the Panthers.

Amanda Hendrickson-Belloguet made five saves on five shots in goal for the hosts, while Breann Cummings made six saves on 10 shots in net for the Lions. Medomak Valley held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Medomak Valley (4-2-1, 16.9643 points) is seventh and Belfast (1-6, 1.7857 points) 15th. Hermon (7-0, 40.2551 points) is first in the 18-team region. The top 12 teams qualify for the playoffs.
