Parading into summer
Belfast — The inaugural Belfast Summer Nights concert series will be preceded by a solstice drumming parade celebration Thursday, June 21. At 5:30 p.m., the parade will commence at the foot of Beaver Street across from the Belfast Co-op. From there, it will walk up Beaver to Church Street, over to Main and then back down Main to High Street.
The route is short so everyone can participate — bring percussion instruments as there will be two prizes awarded, one for the most unusual and another for the most interesting. The concert will follow at the corner of High and Main.
There will be dancing in the streets as Midcoast band OdLaW kicks off the 2012 season of Belfast Summer Nights. The band will perform songs from last year's debut release, introduce material from the soon-to-be-released follow-up and their original takes on some classic and current favorites.
Everyone is invited celebrate the first concert of the summer; bring chairs, picnic, marching and dancing feet. For more information, call 322-7123. Next up in the series on June 28 with be Gypsy Caravan, performing in Heritage Park.
