PenBay Singers carol for the Closet
The Penobscot Bay Singers are ringing in the Yuletide season with a program featuring "Carol of the Bells" and assorted carols from the 14th century to the present. Guest cellist Shannon Hollister will join the group with a contemporary version of "Christmas is Coming," arranged by Robert De Cormier. The Penobscot Bay Singers are directed by Richard Dostie and accompanied by Linnea Johnson.
The concerts this year are early in the season: Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Searsport’s First Congregational Church, 8 Church St. (on the Penobscot Marine Museum campus); Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 297 Belmont Ave./Route 3, Belfast; and Sunday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 47 Court St., Belfast. The Saturday concert offers particularly easy parking and handicapped accessibility.
This year, the Penobscot Bay Singers are partnering with the Soap Closet, a Belfast-based charitable organization. The Soap Closet distributes soap and hygiene products not available through the food stamp program. Each individual who is registered at the Food Pantry at the city’s United Methodist Church may choose three items form the Soap Closet. The products carried are laundry soap, dish soap, dental supplies, shampoo, deodorant, toilet tissue and body soap. Penobscot Bay Singers are asking concertgoers to support this organization by donating an item from the product list at the door.
Admission is free, although a $12 donation is suggested. For more information, send email to PenBaySingers@gmail.com.
