Phyllis A. (Winters)Nickerson
Phyllis A. (Winters) Nickerson, 95, of Belfast passed away on Oct. 5. She was born on July 27, 1918, in Tacoma, Wash., to Lloyd and Avis (Benedict) Winters. She was the only daughter of a career Army officer. She married a young Marine Capt. in 1939 after a shipboard romance. They married at the Presidio in San Francisco. They were stationed in many places on both coasts during their 35 years of service. They retired to North Carolina where her passion for gardening and flower arranging could blossom. She was a great story teller and wrote many of them down for her family to enjoy. They spent many summers in the family home at Ducktrap, Maine. They moved to Belfast in 1997 and resided at Penobscot Shores.
She is predeceased by her parents Lloyd Nelson and Avis Lucille Winters from Clyde and Green Spring, Ohio; her mother and father in law Emma Eva Carver Nickerson, of Lincolnville, and Herman Nickerson Sr., of Lincolnville, her husband Lt. Gen. Herman Nickerson, jr. and her brother in law, Carver Nickerson also of Lincolnville.
She is survived by her daughter Dennis Anne Nickerson, her son John Herman Nickerson and his wife Sheila who reside in Belfast; grand children Sherry Anne Nickerson, of Chehalis, Wash., Patricia Anne Casey of Nashua, N.H., and Mary Margaret Sczepaniak, of Belfast; great grandchildren John Ryan Casey and Scarlett Siobahn Casey of Nashua, N.H. Memorial services to be determined by family at a later time.
