Pioneer Founders at Belfast Community Radio

The idea of low-watt radio in Belfast has early on engaged the imagination of program underwriters the likes of Bangor Savings Bank, Trillium Caterers, acupuncturist Rhonda Feiman, and Main Street retailer Eat More Cheese; when added to donations from individual visionaries, the group has to date received pledges for more than $2,000, ten percent of their December 1 goal. Station organizers are encouraged by this first burst of support for Belfast Community Radio, broadcasting in a 5-10 mile radius of Waterfall Arts, which they expect to be operational by January 2017 at 100.9 FM.

“The enthusiasm for this project is catching on,” says Fundraising Committee Chair Erik Klausmeyer. “These first few contributors are onto the idea that we’ve been working on for months. We will be able to broadcast high school sports or Belfast Summer Nights, and theatrical and festival performances. This is Belfast-centered programming broadcast to us right here in town. There is nothing else like this. People are going to love it.”

Groups and businesses who want to underwrite programs are being sought, and donations of any size are welcome. All who contribute before December 1, 2016 will be “Founders” with special mention. Belfast City Hall is taking donations, or checks can be mailed to Jennifer Hill at 81 Moosehead Trail, Waldo, Maine 04915, or online at For more information about the station or how to volunteer, email the group at, or check out upcoming activities at or Belfast Community Radio on Facebook.
