Pirates of the Dark Rose invade Fort Knox
Hundreds turned out at Fort Knox Saturday, Aug. 17, to learn about sword fighting techniques and firing cannons, as well as how to talk like a pirate and use the small firearms that were commonplace for those who lived their lives at sea.
The Pirates of the Dark Rose and their ship Must Roos brought authenticity to the event, leading the crowd in a treasure hunt, pirate-themed parade, a talk-like-a-pirate-contest and a demonstration that included a talking raven named Oreo.
Event-goers witnessed a pirate ship attack that included all the classic weapons of the outlaw trade — cannons, flintlocks and cutlasses.
Some of those who participated in the event arrived in full pirate costume, with skull and crossbones eye patches being the main fashion accessories of the day.
