Planning Board approves new CrossFit gym

A new gym featuring Crossfit training classes was recently approved by the Belfast Planning Board.

Roland Littlefield spoke before the board Dec. 11 and said that he hoped to convert an existing garage space at 53 Back Belmont Road in Belfast into a gym. The new gym would house several Crossfit training classes, which are currently being held at the Belfast Area High School.

Littlefield said that there would be two or three one-hour classes held daily. Unlike other area gyms, littlefield said Crossfit is different because it focuses on personal training classes rather than leaving the workout route up to the gym member. Those routines include Olympic weight training, cardio-exercises and at-home type exercises like pull-ups during the classes.

The only change Littlefield planned to make to the building was the addition of several parking spaces, bring the total number to 10 or 11 spaces.

The board approved the application with several conditions, including that Littlefield be responsible for snow removal on the site.

No one spoke in favor or in oppotion to the application during the public hearing held the same night.
