Planning meeting for Winterport Nativity
Winterport — The planning meeting for the annual Winterport Nativity is set for Saturday, Oct. 22, at 2:30 p.m. at the home of Dean and Lynda El-Hajj.
Discussed will be the following tentative dates: role assignment/practice, Nov. 19 or 20, 2:30 p.m. (location TBD); Union Meeting House hill practice, Dec. 10 or 11, 2:30 p.m.; crèche construction, Dec. 10 or 11, 4 p.m. at the Union Meeting House hill; pageant set-up, Dec. 16, Union Meeting House hill, Dec. 16, 3 p.m. (this will require adults with an interest in understanding the lighting system); and the pageant itself, Dec. 16 and 17, at 7 p.m.
For the 49th year, members of the community, along with six local churches, are coming together to present this 12-minute outdoor play the weekend before Christmas in front of the historic Union Meeting House on Main Street/Route 1A. The streetlights are turned off and Route 1A traffic is diverted for the pageant, performed by the children of Winterport and surrounding communities. The only speaking part is the Narrator, an adult, and the play involves live animals.
“We would like the community to know that our family is committed to organizing this event through 2017, its 50th year,” said Dean and Lynda El-Hajj. “We need enthusiastic, committed, volunteers to ensure its success for another 50 years.”
