Poetic license in Belfast
Belfast — The Belfast poetry community will stage Poets on Poetry, to celebrate National Poetry Month, Friday night, April 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Abbott Room of Belfast Free Library, 106 High St.
Hosted by Belfast Poet Laureate Ellen Sander, the evening will present such city poetic luminaries as Elizabeth Garber, Jacob Fricke, Karin Spitfire and Lauren Murray to start, while the remainder of the program is open to readers from anywhere who are invited to bring a poem about poetry amongst the works they choose to present.
As all Belfast poetry events are this year, Poets on Poetry also serves as a precursor to the 10th annual Belfast Poetry Festival, which will be an expanded two-day program Oct. 17 and 18. The call for collaborative teams combining poetry and art or poetry and performance/music is in progress, with a deadline of April 15. Anyone interested in submitting a proposal to perform at the festival will find submission guidelines at Poets on Poetry or may request them via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
In keeping with the National Poetry Month celebration in Belfast, Poet Laureate Sander is offering Belfast businesses the opportunity to have their day brightened by having a poem read by a local poet at their business or workplace. For more information, call 319-7979 or email email@example.com.
