Police: Man who snoozes at cemetery charged for violating bail
Searsport — A local man who was barred from using alcohol due to bail conditions allegedly violated those conditions and chose to sleep it off in a Searsport graveyard, according to police.
On the morning of Thursday, Aug. 30, police summoned Robert Johnson, 46, of Stockton Springs on a charge of violating conditions of release. Johnson was charged after Searsport police officers responded to a report of a man sleeping in the Mt. Hope Cemetery on the Back Searsport Road.
"He was found there in the morning," said Searsport Police Chief Dick LaHaye. "He just fell asleep."
LaHaye said in addition to being charged for violating his bail, police also issued Johnson a criminal trespass notice for entering the cemetery during the overnight hours.
