Police seek man after attempted theft
Belfast — Police are asking for the public's help with identifying a man who allegedly attempted to steal $1,300 worth of merchandise from a local supermarket and then left the store empty-handed Saturday, Nov. 3.
Belfast Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said the unknown man walked into the Belfast Hannaford and started loading up a grocery cart with various items. The man apparently caught the attention of store employees, who continued to keep an eye on his activities as he made his way through the store, Cunningham said.
Cunningham said he's not sure what exactly spooked the man into abandoning the full shopping cart and leaving the store, but the situation scared the man to the point that he exited the building.
Anyone with information on the man's identity is asked to contact police at 338-2420.

doesn't an individual have to leave the store premises with unpaid items before he can be apprehended?
what did he actually do to elicit police interest?
