Preserve the garden's bounty
Belfast — Ana and Roy Antaki, of Weeping Duck Farm in Montville, will share how to preserve the garden's bounty using the traditional method of lacto-fermentation during a Tuesday, Aug. 27 talk at Belfast Free Library.
The talk, held in the Abbott Room, begins at 6:30 p.m.
As they learned to grow their own food, the Antakis quickly realized that preserving their produce was just as important as growing it. Disappointed by conventional methods, which were high in energy consumption and diminished the nutritional content, flavor and texture of their produce, they sought alternative methods. One of their favorites is the ancient process of lacto-fermentation, which requires no cooking, and not only protects but also increases the nutritional value of the food. The results are a living, vital food filled with health promoting probiotics. This easy to learn, safe and natural process, can be applied to virtually any garden produce.
