We have a new Captain in Town now. Matthew Bowden, son of Julie Briggs, sailed a 126 Ft. Tug from Honolulu, Hawaii to Alaska recently. What a voyage that must have been. Have a safe return home Matthew.
Sympathy to the family of Sonny Tozier, brother-in-law of Marianne and Steven Helbig who recently passed away. Sonny, Glennice and his family lived here in town for sometime and have several relatives and friends in the area. Bless all the family.
I was one of the many. many people watching last Friday as the crane unloaded the newly refinished steeple for the Stockton Springs Community Church and expertly raised and put it into place with no mishap! Everyone there were beaming with pride and the Steeple Ladies had tears of Happiness in their eyes. They along with the townspeople, performed a monumental task of raising $268,000. for this project and after 6 long years they saw the completion of it. Many yard sales, suppers, food sales and auctions and private donations made it happen. Congratulations to all.
I met Jeff Davis, Stockton Springs correspondent for the Journal there and had a nice conversation as I had never met him before but had E Mailed several times. Talked about how close Prospect and Stockton Springs have historically been involved with each other but-Jeff, Rhonda and Dennis Larrabee live here in Prospect and we are glad they do. I have tried for years to correct people that Fort Knox is in Prospect not Bucksport and so I must with them also. Dennis and Gregg Hamor and family all went on a Moose Hunt Oct. 11th. and came back with a small Moose the next week. Congratulations.
A box has been placed in the Town Hall to collect warm clothes-jackets, coats, sweater, gloves, hats, mittens for the yearly Warm Coats Project. They will be given out on an as needed basis in Dec. 21st. when the People to People give out Christmas Baskets and Food Baskets to those that need them. There will be applications in the Town Office to be filled out with your request soon as the time is going so fast.
Maddie’s Place will be having a Halloween Party for the kids at the store with treats and games for them starting at 5:00-8:00 PM and the Prospect Fire Dept. will be giving out Treats at the Fire House also on Halloween, 4-8 PM. Talk about a sugar high. Just drive slow through the town as the kids will want to get all the treats available.
Erin McNamara graduated from U. of Me. Portland in May and since then has been studying for her Bar Exams which she took in Sept. and passed with flying colors and now she can be called, Erin McNamara, Esq. Erin is the daughter of Larry and Donna McNamara on the Muskrat Farm Road in Prospect and she was the winner of the Prospect Scholarship Fund when she graduated from Bucksport High. We’re proud to have played a small part in her Education. Way to go!
The Jerry Dobbins Post 157 will be holding a day, Nov. 9th. to Honor Jerry W. Dobbins who was killed in Action during World War 2, Seventy years ago. The program will start at 11:00 AM in the Stockton Springs Town Hall. Senator Susan Collins will posthumously present the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor to members of his family. Light refreshments will follow.
With cold weather approaching fast, the Community Club has placed a container by the ramp north of the building for returnable bottles and cans for our Fuel Fund. It all adds up and the need is great. Have already helped 2 families and it is not even winter yet. This fund is for Emergency Heat and can not in all fairness be given more than once in the season to a family. There are other outlets that you can apply for help- through LHeap, General Assistance and probably Joe For Oil when they start up. We have less money to work with this year so may not be able to do as much or the 100 gallons. We need your help to help you!
Saw a Pilated Wood pecker across the street yesterday and have been driving Red Winged Blackbirds from the feeders. I thought they went south about a month ago.
Well, Norman Boynton went South before our supper and came back day before yesterday. He goes down to visit his son and Granddaughter, Maddie every so often. Glad there were no storms for him to come back in.
Get ready for our Hunter’s Breakfast Nov. 2nd. We let you sleep longer as it will start at 5 AM-9 AM and then that night before going to bed remember to change your clock’s one hour BACK.
I want to wish you all a safe and healthy week and please remember those that need a card or a prayer. God Bless you all. Make sure of your target before shooting as Hunting Season is starting this following Monday. Saturday for Kids Day.
