Barbara A. Tilley
I’ll begin on a happy note this week. March 15th. The family of Miriam Perry will have a Birthday Party for her at the Prospect Community dining room starting at 1:00 PM. Family, friends and neighbors are invited to help her celebrate. See you there.
March 13th. The Prospect Community Club will hold the first meeting of the year in the dining room. There will be much to discuss as nominations for Officers will be held and plans for the suppers and other events for the year. I will be stepping down as President after 15 years and hope that we get a good turnout for the meeting. I have been putting out an appeal for more volunteers to work on the suppers so the Community Club will still be able to put on a “wicked good” supper. The first supper of the year will be April 12th. 4-6 PM, continuous serving. Being a small dining room, we can not reserve chairs-as soon as people are done eating, their place is cleared and made ready for someone else.
I want to thank the people that give me money to buy the beans for the suppers. I buy enough beans for all the suppers so they are readily available and it is a one time payment. Without people donating food, money for beans, hot dogs it would be a struggle to raise enough money to pay for the Insurance, Heat, Taxes and upkeep of the building then have the money to deliver May Baskets to the shut-in and Seniors, the luncheon after the Memorial Day Parade for the Veterans who march, donations in times of need by individuals, the big Christmas Party for the Children in town, and the scholarship for a student who will be going on further to college for their education plus the management of the Prospect Concerns Emergency Heating Funds and the collection of bottles and cans to help raise money. The Club also furnishes the room free of charge for a family in town when there is a death and they need a place to gather for food and conversation. We are grateful that we have the rentals of Maddie’s Place and the dining room for private functions such as Birthday Parties, Anniversary Parties and such.
There will be a new sign put up by the Community Club ramp to let people know where to drop off their returnables so they may be turned into cash for the Prospect Concerns Emergency Heating Fund. Every little bit helps and that way it’s a painless donation. We thank you for taking your bottles and cans straight to the redemption center and Bucksport and telling them the donation is for the Fund.
Voting for Town Officers will be held March 28th. 10:00 AM-8:00 PM in the Town Office and the Town Meeting will be held the next day, March 29th, 9:00 sharp. In the Fire Station garage. Come and participate.
It will be interesting to follow discussion and possible vote about adding a “suicide fence” to the Penobscot Narrows Bridge railing. Joe Brooks of Winterport is spear heading a bill for this purpose to the Legislature. If it saves one life then it will be worth it-
I want to wish you all a safe and healthy week and please remember those that need a card or a prayer. God Bless you all.
