The signs of Spring are beginning to show. Turkey Buzzards, Red Breasted Groesbeck’s and Red Wing Black Birds are showing up at the feeders. (Not the Turkey Buzzards-they just fly over head.) This morning I saw a Pileated Wood Pecker fly into a small tree back of our garage. Usually they don’t like to be seen in public but the branch it landed on was not big enough to hide him. Now I’m waiting for the Geese to start flying over the house. Should be soon as the snow and ice are beginning to go fast.
The Family of Miriam Perry gave her a Birthday Party at the Prospect Community dining room, Mar.15th. Among the many people there to celebrate with her was a good friend, Andrea Dunphy from Florida who flew up especially to be here with her on her birthday. Miriam was very surprised and pleased to see her. Andrea will return to Florida tomorrow. She and Miriam have been visiting friends in the area. Florence Heath who is house bound of Sandy Point and also Frank Costigan who is a patient at Harbor Hill receiving rehab from a broken neck. Frank expects to come home shortly and we all wish he and Mary Jane well. Miriam received many nice cards and gifts and she wants to Thank her family and friends for ”the most wonderful party. A Special Thank you to her family for everything.” Wish you many more Miriam.
Sympathy to the family of Lorriane Robbins who was living with her son and daughter-in-law in Orrington. Lorraine husband Frank and family lived in Prospect for many years on the Hatch Road until Frank died in 2006 and later Lorraine suffered a stroke which required her to move to a Nursing Home and then to her son’s home. Lorraine was a hard working woman and always smiling. Rest in Peace now.
The Prospect Community Club held their meeting Sunday, March 16th. after it was postponed from March 13th. due to weather. Nominations for Officer’s were made and then a vote to elect them then was made and accepted. Linda Gamble is now the President, Vice President Jenn Mc Veigh, Secretary Barbara Tilley, Treasurer Valery Doody. Was very glad to have a volunteer step up and offer help on the suppers, especially for the month’s of April and May when Jenn will be recuperating from Knee Replacement. Can really use more volunteers so it won’t be the same people every month. Fred, Diane Swift and granddaughter Madison presented me with a bouquet of flowers-to the Pres. I was surprised and very pleased. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.
It may sound premature but Spring has arrived and soon people will want to burn bush and grass. You will need a fire permit from the Fire Chief, Tim Terry to do so. His number is 567-3621 or you can usually find hi at the Fire Station every Sunday morning where he and his crew are checking out the equipment to make sure it is running OK. Never know when they will be asked to assist or to respond to an accident or fire. By the way, they can always use more volunteers, see Tim.
Friday, March 28th. voting for Town Officials will take place in the Town Office 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM. The only opening with two people running is for Road Commissioner. Elwin Boynton, long time Road Commissioner and Wood Contractor, Harlan Gamble. There were no papers taken out for School Board so that will have to be filled by a write in vote. If you write someone’s name in , make sure they will accept the position if elected. Town Meeting starts the next morning at 9:00 AM sharp. See you there.
Don’t forget, next month the IRS will be anxiously waiting for your return, no extra day this year.
I want to wish you all a safe and healthy week and please remember those that need a card or a prayer. God Bless you all.
