Pushing Against the Tide...Change Public Education
Pushing Against the Tide is a new Facebook group made up of educators and community members in Maine. Together we want to change public education. Our first priority is to raise awareness about the effect high-stakes testing has on schools and learning.
The first Pushing Against the Tide Meetup will take place this Saturday, February 2nd, at noon, at Bell the Cat, in Belfast.
This is an opportunity to meet f2f and talk about what we can do to oppose standardized testing and work for meaningful learning in schools.
The format I'd like to use for this Meetup is, Show up, find me, and start talking about what your concerns are for the future of public education. Not your immediate concerns relating to a specific school or class or school employee but your view of the state of the institution now. It could be as specific as the need for more physical activity, more hands-on work, or even, more homework, or as general as the need for deeper learning, less teaching to test.
Join us Saturday at noon! If you can't make it, join us on Facebook: Pushing Against the Tide
See you there!
