Quarry Hill Chowder Champ Wants Your Vote!
Setting out to reclaim the title of midcoast chowder czar, Quarry Hill executive chef John Roy promises to ladle up a brand new crustacean sensation at this weekend's West Bay Rotary Chili-Chowder Challenge at the Snow Bowl. Chowder lovers of all stripes and ages are invited to turn out on Saturday, February 11, between 11 am and 1:30 pm, to sample the competing potions and vote for their favorites. Winners will be announced 30 minutes after the last servings. (The chili competition is scheduled for the following day, Sunday the 12th, at the same time and place.)
John has a new trick up his sleeve for this year's crowd. It's a mouthwateringly rich and creamy lobster-corn chowder, overstuffed with fresh Maine lobster and studded with chunks of smoky bacon, that's already won rave reviews from Quarry Hill residents.
“With chowder, it’s all about the seafood,” says John. “I start with the freshest I can find and then keep the recipe simple, hot, and thick. That way, the seafood really shines.” And John knows whereof he speaks: with three first-place wins in the past five years, the Quarry Hill chef has more blue ribbons to his credit than anyone in Chowder Challenge history.
