Quirky Strange Wild poetry invitational

May 12, 2017

Belfast — An afternoon event dubbed Quirky Strange Wild: From Skunk Cabbages to Lilacs is planned for Sunday, May 21, at 4 p.m. at The Playhouse, 107 Church St. The invitational poetry reading is a benefit for The Playhouse, the city’s longtime downtown theater.

Those who have ever felt compelled to write a poem about those wild strange early spring plants and flowers — rhubarb, skunk cabbage, horseradish, fiddleheads, coltsfoot, stinging nettles, dandelions, forsythia, lilacs — are invited to do so and bring it, or a favorite by someone else, along. Belfast poets Elizabeth Garber, Linda Buckmaster, Judy Kaber, Belfast Poet Laureate Tom Moore, Rebecca Jessup and more will helm the celebration of spring’s Quirky Strange beauty; come at 3:30 p.m. to sign up to read. Suggested donation is $10 at the door. Seating is limited; call 338-5777 for reservations.

Courier Publications’ A&E Editor Dagney C. Ernest can be reached at (207) 594-4401, ext. 115; or dernest@courierpublicationsllc.com.
