Thursday, April 3, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Carver Memorial Library - WW1 Presentation: The First World War on the Western Front. The soldiers, the weapons, the tactics and the trenches. Presented by Samual Cormier, member of the 42nd Battalion of the Black Watch, Royal Highlanders of Canada historical reenactment unit.
Saturday, April 5, from 2 until 4 p.m., WORKS and Kathy Goldner will be demonstrating Pysanky, the art of egg painting. FMI call 899-5988.
Tuesday, April 8, starting at 7 p.m., the Searsport Historical Society's 2014 season begins in the Searsport Congregational Church vestry. Their guest speaker will be Phyllis Sommer, owner of the Pumpkin Patch Antique Shop located on West Main Street in Searsport, entering its 39th year.
Specializing in Early American furniture and crafts, the Pumpkin Patch is a showplace for a variety of dealers. Come and hear about Sommer's connections with Searsport History through her business and anecdotes of her life in antiques. Refreshments served. All Welcome.
Wednesday, April 9, starting at 2 p.m., Waldo County TRIAD's April meeting will be held at the Sheriff's Office in Belfast. The public is welcome.
Wednesday, April 9, starting at 10:30 a.m., the Waldo County Retired Teachers meeting will take place in the Waldo County Tech Center. Social gathering starts at 10:30 a.m., business meeting, speaker and luncheon at 11 a.m. Guest speaker is Megan Pinette, Belfast Historical Society - How Women Shaped Belfast.
Thursday, April 10, starting at 8 a.m., HOBBA will be holding a map meeting at the Searsport Branch of the Bangor Savings Bank to touch base on their map calling/visits as they prepare the new 2014 business guide.
Friday, April 11, starting at 5 p.m., the Searsport Food Cupboard committee will hold their annual Fish Chowder and Pie Benefit Supper at the First Congregational Church in Searsport. The price is $7. for adults and $4 for children 123 and under.
Friday, April 11, from 5 to 7 p.m., WORKS Bookstore & Gallery presents the first show of the 2014 exhibition season: Vicky's Bags, 300 lunch bags by internationally known Searsport painter, Robert Banks.
In 2010, Left Banks Books (now in Belfast) hosted Barnes speaking about the lunch bags, which had just been featured in McSweeney's magazine, issue #35. In 2012, the collection was exhibited in its entirety in California.
Now WORKS is displaying the bags on the East Coast for the first time. Along with 300 of Vicky's lunch bags, an original painting by Mr. Barnes will be exhibited.
Stop by on April 11 from 5-7 p.m. to catch a rare glimpse of this important artist's work. Bob may even show up! The exhibit will be on view through May 11, 2014.
Palm Sunday, April 13, starting at 3 p.m., at Union Hall in Searsport (Town Hall) there will be Music, Drama, Dancing and More Music!!! With all monies from this Concert/Show going to support the Interfaith Fuel Fund. Tickets will be available at the door with a $10 donation suggested.
This will be about a 2 hour show with lots of exciting acts not seen before. Includes a 20 minute intermission at which time you may purchase refreshments. Lots of great stuff...not to be missed. Union Hall is wheel chair accessible.

Spring must be here as the Dairy Port has opened for the season in Bucksport. I know that coffee is the soft serve flavor on the 5th and 6th.
