Former San Francisco ballet dancer and Centre Stage actress Amanda Schull and Birmingham Royal Ballet principal dancer Chi Cao plays a couple who caused an international incident in “Mao’s Last Dancer.”

Stockton Springs — Stockton Springs Community Library’s Thursday Reading Group will host a screening of “Mao’s Last Dancer” Friday, April 4, at 6:30 p.m. The group read the book and decided to share the film with the public at the library, 6 Station St.

Based on an inspiring true story, this emotionally powerful 2009 Australian biographical film is the fascinating and epic tale of Li Cunxin, a peasant boy from rural China who beats impossible odds to become a world-renowned ballet dancer. Through breathtaking talent and sheer determination, Li makes his way to the United States but when he falls in love with an American woman, he must risk everything to remain in America.

The film screening is free, and light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 567-4147 or visit stocktonspringslibrary.org.
