Robotics team hosts open house, chili cook-off April 26

Apr 16, 2017

Searsport — The public is invited to a Robotics Open House and “Great Chili Cook-Off” at Searsport District High School from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 26.

Over the past year, four robotics teams based in Searsport have been hard at work participating in FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Robotics Competition. The open house is an end-of-season celebration and display of their work. Visitors will be able to see the robots, learn about what goes into building and programming them, and learn more about the team’s fundraising and community outreach efforts.

Registration information will be available for students interested in joining the team, and registration is open to all students in coastal Waldo county. There will also be a silent auction to benefit the team, along with other items for sale. Finally, the teams have been collecting donations of peanut butter and jelly for the past month, and the winning team will be pie-ing their mentors in the face at the end of the event.

The public is also invited to sample various chili dishes as part of the “Great Chili Cook-Off.” Regional School Unit 20 staff and students will be preparing their favorite recipes, and attendees will vote for their favorite dish. Cornbread, salad, coffee and drinks, and a dessert will also be served. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Proceeds will benefit the robotics teams.

For more information about the event, contact Geoff Cyr, robotics lead mentor, at gcyr@rsu20.org, or follow the Viking Landers Facebook page at facebook.com/vikinglanders.
