Rockland Kiwanis Meeting Minutes for December 30, 2013

This week’s meeting was a night meeting scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM, and was preceded by a social gathering that began at 5:30 at Archer’s On The Pier.

Pledge of Allegiance was led by President Katie Tarbox.
Invocation was given by Lieutenant Governor Jackie Harjula.
Guests: Adam Ridlon; Anna Curtis; Brian Tarbox; Kurt Leidenroth and Samantha Herring from Aktion Club; Rachel Kinney; and Madeline Pease.

Announcements & Committee Reports: December Committee Reports are due now; Celia Knight has regretfully resigned her position as Vice President; Meals On Wheels needs volunteers; R.eading I.s F.undamental will be doing a book distribution at Rockland Head Start on 8 January and helpers are welcome; Cappy’s Chowder House in Camden will be the location on Wednesday January 29 for a Kiwanis Club fundraiser to benefit Special Olympics and Aktion Club.

Secret Greeter: Marcia Whitten caught Sandy Millar, Mark Curtis, Bobbie Wentworth, Haley Hall, Kelly Flint, Amy Pease. Badges: Dan Saucier was wearing Ruth Roberts’ badge. 50/50: Margie Kinney – no joker. Trivia: Sandy Millar provided the correct answer.

Happy/Sad $$$: Marcia Whitten was happy for scholarship recipient Emma Waldron for a 4.0 GPA; the Tom Brady/LeGarrette Blount partnership; and her parent’s 65th wedding anniversary. Dan Saucier was happy for selling the last Christmas Tree; Sad for the ice storm; and happy for a visit to his daughter, despite the fact that he missed his MOW assignment Jackie Harjula was happy for Christmas; her son’s 41st birthday; and sad for a missed meeting and for the passing of Susan L. McCluskey. Celia Knight was sad for having to step off the board of directors at this time; and happy that she will continue to be a contributing member of the club. Shannon Kinney was happy for Christmas; and happy for Rachel. Cliff Blastow was happy for all that Brian Tarbox does for Kiwanis; for the Tarbox Christmas party; and for selling Christmas Trees. Sandy Millar was happy for working the red kettle; for selling Christmas Trees; and sad for a missed meeting. Sumner Kinney was happy for the Patriots; happy that Samantha did not win the 50/50 again; happy for his New Years Eve meal advice; and among other things referenced in his 2013 Kinney Year-In-Review dissertation he was happy for his many years with Buffy & Cindy; and his new life with Lucy; and his 25th wedding anniversary. Keith Wass paid happy dollars for the opportunity to entertain the group with Riddles. Katie Tarbox was happy for Christmas; happy for Archers Restaurant for their support; happy for the meeting guests; sad for her business closing; and sad for her father-in-law’s injury from a fall last week.

Speaker: There was no speaker scheduled for this meeting. Next week’s meeting will feature a Kiwanis member orientation. For new members, this orientation is a required step in earning a permanent member badge.
