Ronald L. Ashey, 66
Ronald L. Ashey, 66, of Searsport, died suddenly at Harbor Hill.
He was born June 24, 1946 to Desmond and Clara (Morse) Ashey. He graduated from Searsport High and enlisted in the Navy. He served in Vietnam, where he was assigned to swift boats and an ambush team at night. After active duty, he worked as a commercial spray-painter, a school bus driver, mechanic and at Champion mill. On the side, he did small-engine repair and landscaping, both of which he enjoyed. He was a ‘self-taught man” and “jack of all trades.” There wasn’t anything he couldn’t do.
He enjoyed attending his children's and grandkids' sporting events -- #1 fan for all sports. He coached Little League and women’s softball. He was the kindest, most generous, loving man. Ron enjoyed helping family, friends or even strangers. Everyone enjoyed his sense of humor. He made friends easily. He was the best husband, father and Papa. He was a big man with a big heart for everyone. He will be greatly missed by all of us here and friends in Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn “Carol” Ashey, of Searsport; daughter Renee Mehuren and husband Jerry of Searsmont and their children, Kristine and Kelsey, Keith Ashey, and his son, Gabriel, of Searsport and Keith’s significant other, Colleen, and her children, Brianne, Brooke and Aaron; Craig Ashey and his children, Cameron and Caleb, of Prospect; sister Eleane Street and husband Fred of Milford; brother Terry Ashey and wife Gloria of Verona Island; brother Leland Ashey and wife Linda of Searsport; brother Michael Ashey and wife Donna of Belfast; sisters-in-law Barbara Ashey of Bucksport and Jean Moulton of New Hampshire; brothers-in-law, Bill Daggett of Belfast, Shayne Daggett of Connecticut; many special nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Ronald was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Richard; a brother-in-law, Richard; two nephews, Steven and Gary; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Solomon.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, with the Rev. Ken Davenport officiating. Graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Route 1 Searsport, following the service.
