Regional School Unit 3 board members approved extending the superintendent's contract for another year, as well as giving her a raise.

Chairman Phil Shibles said board members approved extending Superintendent Heather Perry's contract for an additional year, and they awarded her a 1 percent raise. According to district budget documents for the 2013-2014 school year, Perry receives an annual salary of $105,100.

A 1 percent raise would increase that salary by $1,051 for a total salary of $106,151.

Shibles said Perry will also receive a $500 increase on her annual tax-deferred annuity. The district established the tax-deferred annuity prior to Perry being hired and funded it at $5,500 a year, Shibles said. He said the money from the tax-deferred annuity is typically withdrawn after a person retires and they are in a lower tax bracket.
