'Scare Me' 5K to spook runners Oct. 29Runners, walkers to journey across city streets
Rockland — The Courier-Gazette "Scare Me" 5-kilometer road race will spook runners during the annual 3.1-mile event on Saturday, Oct. 29 at Eclipse Restaurant at 2 Park Drive.
The run, part of the Go! Malawi holiday 5K race series, will start at 10 a.m., with the one-mile fun run set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
Participants are encouraged to dress in costume for the race.
Runners and walkers may register for both races at 9 a.m. on the day of the event or by preregistering at active.com. The fun run is $5 in advance or $10 the day of the event, while the 5K is $18 in advance or $20 the day of the event.
Those who preregister will receive five raffle tickets to win local giveaways, African carvings, gift certificates or other prizes, while those who register the day of the event will receive one raffle ticket.
Go! Malawi is an organization that has education programs and provides scholarships for children in the Ntchisi area of Malawi, Africa so they may continue onward with their education after primary school. In Malawi, free education ends after eighth grade. Go! Malawi pays tuition for more than 50 impoverished children, allowing them to continue their education while giving them a “hand-up” and a chance at a productive life. Currently two students who are graduates of this program are in college in the United States and several others attend college in Malawi.
